Kinesiology

The mission of the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science is to prepare students for thoughtful and informed careers in health and physical education, exercise and health sciences, and community health science education.  During their tenure at Concordia, students are encouraged to participate in the student-led kinesiology organization- Concordia Health Alliance for Majors in Physical Education and Kinesiology (CHAMP) and to join industry professional organizations such as the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD) and American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

Candidates pursuing a degree in health and physical education are required to apply to the Department of Teacher Education within the College of Education.  Accepted applicants work toward a teaching licensure in the State of Minnesota.  Students who complete the coursework and practicum for the health and physical education major receive dual licensure for physical education (K-12) and health education (5-12) by the State of Minnesota in four years.  Students pursuing a kinesiology degree can choose one or more multiple tracks including exercise science, athletic training, sports psychology, sports management and community health.  Internship possibilities include Minnesota Twins, Timberwolves, Vikings, Wild, Abbott Northwestern Hospital, United Hospital, Acceleration Minnesota, YMCA, YWCA, and Saints baseball.

Concordia Kinesiology graduates enjoy high job placement rates and have obtained rewarding careers in coaching, health coordinating, and fitness center directing.
