Lutheran Classroom Teacher

How can you make an eternal difference in a child's life?  By studying to become a Lutheran classroom teacher!  Founded in 1893 as a teacher's college, Concordia has a rich heritage in preparing students for the classroom of today and tomorrow.  We offer several distinct advantages for students preparing to become a Lutheran classroom teacher.

Our dynamic urban campus provides a wide range of experiences and opportunities for students that prepares them to work in the emerging church.  Students are prepared to work in a team ministry setting by collaborating with students studying in other Christian ministry programs.  Students also will have a great deal of flexibility in determining their student teaching experience.  Most importantly, students will be taught by caring professors who are committed to ministry in Lutheran schools.

The Lutheran classroom teacher program is a collaborative effort between the College of Vocation and Ministry and the College of Education, preparing men and women for teaching careers in one of the more than 2,500 pre-school, elementary or secondary schools of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.  The program is integrated and coordinated between the two colleges in such a way as to benefit students in achieving their ministry goals.

Students preparing to be a Lutheran classroom teacher meet the requirements for both Minnesota state licensure as a public school teacher and for church certification to teach in a parochial setting.  We then facilitate placement into one of the church's school ministries upon completion of the program.  The Lutheran Confessionalism minor is awarded through the College of Vocation and Ministry, which also recommends the candidate for faculty approval to become a commissioned minister of the church.

A Lutheran classroom teacher teaches the whole child, addressing values and spiritual questions within church-supported schools.  The program provides wonderful opportunities for ministry within the United States and throughout the world.
