Psychology

The psychology major at Concordia offers a robust, contemporary, and rigorous experience in the methods and content of the field of psychology.  Our professors are accomplished in the field and bring unique insight and expertise into the curriculum.  Our psychology program establishes a strong knowledge base of the fundamental methods and content of the psychology.  It also maintains the flexibility to allow you to tailor the curriculum to individual interests.  Psychology majors are required to successfully complete a 12-credit internship experience in which the theories and principles that have been learned in the classroom are put to work in an applied setting.  Additionally, students are required to take the Major Field Test in psychology, a standardized, nationally distributed exam that assesses the students' knowledge of the undergraduate psychology curriculum.  The department also supports and recognizes an "honors" designation for students who graduate with exemplary scholarly performance.

Our psychology program is not only a popular course of study, but a well-developed program characterized by dedicated faculty, a solid curriculum, and successful students.  Students have the opportunity to engage in research and present at the Minnesota Undergraduate Psychology Conference.  We have a vibrant psychology club in which members attend conferences, invite speakers, sponsor psychological awareness events and enjoy social functions.  Internship opportunities include residential treatment programs for youth, adoption placement agencies, businesses such as Land O'Lakes, and counseling settings.  It is common for Concordia students to find full-time employment with their internship institution.  Concordia psychology students are routinely accepted into graduate programs of their choice.

Psychology provides an excellent foundation for careers in counseling, social services, youth and community education, human resources, business, health care and rehabilitation, forensic psychology, and research.  Our graduates work in a variety of fields including residential treatment programs, youth development programs, social services, and human resources.
