Jan. 22– NSIC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week: Concordia-St. Paul’s Kawaskii Bacon (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) won the 200m dash in a time of 22.23, while finishing second in the 60m dash, crossing the line in 6.91 at the Minnesota Open on Saturday.
NSIC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: Bemidji State’s All-American thrower Joe Remitz (North Branch, Minn.) earned wins in both the shot put and weight throw at Saturday’s Super 8 Open stretching the tape 55-10.50 and 59-00.25 respectively. Both were provisionally qualifying marks.
NSIC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: University of Mary’s Destinee Keller (Sr., Beulah, N.D.) won the triple jump with a conference leading 38’6¼” national provisional qualifying performance at the Bemidji Super 8 Meet. Keller also placed 2nd in the long jump in a national provisional qualifying mark of 18’1½”. That is the top long jump in the NSIC.
NSIC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: Wayne State’s Kylie Herian (So., Pierce, Neb.) won the 60 meter hurdles in a provisional national qualifying mark time of 8.88 seconds at the USD Bill Hillenbrand Open. Herian also won the 60 meter hurdles the week before at the Mankato State Open. These are the first two races she has run since the NSIC Outdoor Championships after which she was diagnosed with a stress fracture in her shin.
