Feb. 24– The Concordia softball (5-0) team opened their 2008 Florida Spring trip with a pair of wins over Mercyhurst College (0-2) at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers.  The Golden Bears earned a 3-0 win in the first game and survived for a 7-6 win in game two.

Game 1  - CU 3, Mercyhurst 0
Junior Natalie Mast (Oakdale, MN) was 2-3 with two stolen bases in game one.   Freshman Stephanie Schmikla (Madison, WI) earned her second win with a four hit shut out, while striking out two.

Game 2 - CU 7, Mercyhurst 6
Natalie Mast again went 2-3, but had three stolen bases in game two.  Freshman Sami Mattson (Esko, MN) was 2-3 with 3 RBI.  Junior Jenny Kaminski (Columbia Heights, MN) earned the save for the Golden Bears.

Concordia will play Alma at 9:00 on Monday morning and Mercyhurst again at 1:00 on Monday afternoon in Fort Myers, FL.
