Feb. 28– The Northern Sun coaches have announced their 2007-08 all-NSIC teams with Concordia sophomore Craig Heiman (Marshall, WI) earning first-team all-NSIC honors and senior James Metcalf (Killeen, TX) being named third-team all-NSIC.
Heiman, a 6-5 forward, finished second in the NSIC is scoring, averaging 18.3 points per game. His 488 points on the season is fourth best all-time and just 41 points shy of the school-record of 529 held by Brian Jamros (2004) In NSIC contests only, Heimen finished 3 points shy of the scoring title won by Winona State’s John Smith, the NSIC Player of the Year.
On the year, Heiman was a three-time NSIC Player of the Week annd was fifth in free throw percentage (.804) and 13th in rebounding (5.1) in the NSIC. He had career-high 36 points against Upper Iowa (2-16) and scored 32 points the following game vs. SW Minnesota State (2-22. On the season he scored in double-figures in 24 games and had 20-plus in ten and 30-plus in three.
Metcalf, a 6-3 guard, had a breakout season for the Golden Bears in 2007-08. Entering the season, Metcalf had averaged 2.1 points and 1.8 rebounds in 60 games over three seasons. This season he averaged 10.9 points and a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game, which is tied for fifth-best in the NSIC.
Metcalf led the team with six double-doubles. He scored in double-figures in 16 games on the season, scoring a career-high 23 points with nine rebounds against UW River Falls (11-24). He was named the NSIC Player of the Week once and over span of eight games from Jan. 18th to Feb. 15th, Metcalf averaged 14.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
The Golden Bears are 16-11 (10-8 NSIC) on the year and will host Wayne State in the first round of the NSIC tournament on Saturday, Mar. 1 at 8:00 in the Gangelhoff Center.
Concordia has now had a player named first-team all-NSIC in four of the last five seasons: Kyle Marxhausen (2006-07), Brian Jamros (2003-04, 2004-05).
