Mar. 12– Junior center Amanda Behnke, the NSIC Player of the Year, is one of five finalists from the North Central Region to be placed on all-America ballots for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Daktronics. Behnke finished the season with a single-season school record 551 points.
The three-time NSIC Player of the Week concluded her season with the best performance of her career with highs of 30 points and 21 rebounds in a 92-89 loss to Nebraska-Kearney in the regional semifinals. In three NSIC Tournament games, Behnke averaged 20.0 points and 10.3 rebounds as the Bears captured the NSIC Tournament championship. On the year, Behnke had 10 double-doubles and broke the 20-point barrier 13 times.
The four other finalists from the North Central Region on the Daktronics ballot are fellow first team all-region selections Erika Quigley of St. Cloud State, Diana and Denise Lopez of Regis and Kierah Kimbrough of North Dakota.
The other four finalists on the WBCA ballot are Diana Lopez of Regis, Quigley of SCSU, Katie Winkelman of Minnesota Duluth and Alison Adamson of Augustana.
The North Central Region (Region 7 in WBCA) is one of eight regions, with each region sending five players to the all-American ballot.
The Daktronics and WBCA all-American teams will be released on March 20. The Daktronics all-American team is voted on by the sports information directors from around the nation while the WBCA's votes are formulated by coaches who are members of the WBCA.
The Eagan, Minn. native averaged 17.2 points and 8.2 rebounds, leading Concordia to a 22-10 record and a 15-3 mark to win the Northern Sun's regular season title.
