Concordia Loses Pair of Games to Minnesota State

Apr. 18– The Bears (18-21) dropped a pair of non-conference games to Minnesota State (28-12) in Mankato on Wednesday afternoon.  They lost the first one 9-1 in five innings, before falling 3-2 in game two.

Concordia managed just three hits in game one as the Mavericks jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. They would add two in the third and two in the fourth, to win the abreviated five inning game.

MSU scored nine runs on seven hits and four Concordia errors.  Mandy
Turba
took the loss, giving up four earned runs, with a strikeout and two walks.  She falls to 8-13 on the season.

The Bears got their only run in the game in the fifth as they strung together all their hits in the game at one time.  Tiffany Rodd opened the in the fourth inning with a single, followed by a double by Nikki ScherrLaura Tischler reached on an error to load the bases. Anna Bjorlin then had a single to score Rodd.  Two straight popups ended the Bears thread and the game with bases loaded.

In the nightcap, after the Golden Bears used a solo homerun by Scherr in the top of the fourth inning to take a 1-0 advantage, the Mavericks scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-1 lead.

Concordia added a run in the sixth, after a double by Natalie Mast, she would score on a error by the centerfielder on an Amanda Yurek hit.  However it was not enough. 

The Bears would leave nine runners on base, as they scored three runs on six hits and three walks.  Mast was 2-3 with two doubles in the game.

Jenny Kaminski took the loss, giving up three runs, two earned, on seven hits and a walk.  She had two strikeouts and falls to 10-8 on the season. 

Samantha Rohr picked up the wins in both games for the Mavericks and improved to 17-6 on the season for the second-ranked team in the North Central Region.

The Bears have now lost 11 of their last 12 contests.
