Concordia Announces Three Newcomers for 2007-08

May. 09– Concordia University men's basketball coach Kelly Boe has announced that Matt Cadwell will transfer from South Dakota State and Matt Hackl and Eric Hartmann have signed National Letters of Intent. The trio will suit up for the Golden Bears in 2007-08.

Cadwell, a 6-3 guard from Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul, Minn., will join the Golden Bears after playing two seasons at NCAA Division I member South Dakota State. The former three-sport star for the Raiders was CDH's all-time scoring leader on the hardwood with 1,442 career points. He was a two-time all-state selection for the Raiders and was named the 2003-04 St. Paul Pioneer Press Athlete of the Year. He also excelled in football and baseball where he earned all-state honors in all three sports before focusing on basketball for his collegiate career.

Hackl, a 6-7 forward from Seymour High School in Seymour, Wis., averaged 19.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists as a senior to be named the Bay Conference Player of the Year and Green Bay Area Player of the Year. He leaves Seymour High as the all-time leading scorer, putting up 1,312 career points. He helped the squad to a WIAA Division II State Championship in 2006 and is a three-time all-state selection (honorable mention, third team, second team). Hackl is also a two-time first team all conference selection and a three-time team MVP.

Hartmann is a 6-3 guard from Jefferson High School in Alexandria, Minn., where he earned all-state honorable mention honors while leading his team to a section runner-up finish, falling to eventual third place Elk River. The All-Central Lakes Conference selection led Jefferson with 17.5 points while also leading the team in three-point field goal pct., free throw pct., assists and steals as he was named the team MVP. Hartmann was a team captain in basketball, football and track & field during his prep career.

The three newcomers, along with Drew Votis (6-11, C, Peshtigo, Wis.) and Chris Pfeifer (6-7, F, Hopkins, Minn.), join a Concordia men's basketball team that finished 21-8 in 2006-07, setting the school wins record. They also set the school record for most conference wins, finishing 13-5 in the NSIC to garner a third place finish in the league standings - their highest ever finish in the league. The Bears are coming off of three consecutive winning seasons.
