Borman Named Daktronics All-Region First Team

May. 17Concordia University senior starting pitcher/center fielder Matt Borman was named to the 2007 Daktronics, Inc. All-Central Region First Team, as voted on by sports information directors from the three conferences in the central region (NCC, NSIC, MIAA).

Minnesota State University, Mankato's Jon Bjelland and University of Central Missouri's Josh Paul headlined the 2007 Daktronics All-Central Region team today as the Pitcher and Player of the Year.

Central Missouri landed five players on the first-team while Minnesota State and Nebraska-Omaha each had three named to the top squad.

The first and second teams were comprised of four starting pitchers, three outfielders and one of every other field position, including a relief pitcher, utility and designated hitter.

Borman was selected at the utility position, to be eligible on the Daktronics ballot, a player must have appeared in at least 25% of his teams games at two different positions. Borman appeared in 14 games as a pitcher, starting 11 of Concordia's 43 games in leading the Bears to a 30-13 record.

Borman, the 2007 NSIC Pitcher of the Year as well an as all-NSIC outfielder and pitcher, had one of the finest seasons in Concordia baseball history. He slugged a school record 14 home runs, giving him 33 for his career, also a school record. He also recorded school records in hits (64), runs (61) and RBI (58). He hit .413 (64-155) at the plate with a .768 slugging pct. and a .500 on base pct. He was 13-15 on the base paths, drilled 13 doubles, walked 23 times and committed only three errors in 43 games.

On the mound, the left-handed ace compiled a 7-2 record while pitching 54.0 innings with two complete games and a 4.00 ERA. He held opposing batters to a .233 average and allowed just one home run in 202 opponent at bats. He struck out 35 and walked 18 while allowing 47 hits.

He earned NSIC Pitcher of the Week honors once and NSIC Player of the Week honors twice during the final four weeks of the season, helping the Golden Bears to a 12-1 stretch of baseball to get into the NSIC Tournament as the fourth seed.

Concordia University broke the single-season school record for most victories for the third consecutive season, beating out 2005 (29-12-1) and 2006 (29-12) by one victory.
