Aug. 14– Concordia University head softball coach Bob Bartel has announced the signing of Sami Mattson of Esko High School. She will join the Golden Bears for the 2008 season.

A two-sport standout for the Eskomos, Mattson was an all-state performer in softball and basketball. She earned two all-state honors on the diamond where she was named the Duluth News Tribune Player of the Year as a senior, hitting .438 with 14 doubles, seven home runs while posting a .475 on base pct. and a .831 slugging pct. She scored 1,375 career points in basketball, posting 329 points as a senior while also averaging 4.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals.
