Aug. 31– Former Concordia forward Ty Thomas has signed a contract to play for the Texas Tycoons of the ABA. Thomas transferred to Concordia for his senior season in 2005 after playing his first three seasons at the University of North Texas.
At Concordia, Thomas earned second team all-NSIC honors averaging 16.8 points (ranked third in the NSIC) and a team-high 6.0 rebounds (seventh in NSIC). Also ranked seventh in the league in free throw percentage (.789) and fifth in blocks (1.07 bpg). Starting 27 of 28 games, Thomas led the team in scoring 17 times and paced the team in rebounding 12 times, scoring 20 or more points eight times. Thomas recorded 31 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists vs Minnesota-Deluth in 2006 and after his senior season was drafted by the Austin Toros of the NBDL.
When asked about playing for the Tycoons, Thomas said, "I am looking forward to returning to the metroplex and playing for the Texas Tycoons. They were only one win away from taking home the championship last season and I hope that I can help us get that one more victory. It will be good to be playing in front of friends and family again, something I haven't been able to do since playing at UNT."
"We're really excited about what Ty brings to the team," stated Tycoons head coach Chris Terrell. "At 6'7" he has the skills to dominate at the 2 position with his size, quickness, athleticism and scoring ability. He also can play small forward and rebounds well enough to even play bigger when we go quick. Ty came out to our team tryout earlier this month and showed the type of impact player he is going to be for us this season."
