Furrow Steals Game Winning Run in Ninth
May. 08 - Junior Brenden Furrow's (Johnston, Iowa) steal of home plate scored the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning for Concordia University (25-14), who defeated Southwest Minnesota State (24-19) 2-1 on Thursday afternoon in the first round of the NSIC Tournament held in Wayne, Neb. Golden Bears Land Five on All-NSIC First Team
May. 08 - The Concordia University baseball team landed five players on the 2008 NSIC Baseball All-Conference Team, as voted on by league coaches. Senior Joe Abellera (Minnetonka, Minn.) was named the 2008 NSIC Newcomer of the Year, as well while the Golden Bears were also represented by one all-NSIC second team selection.
Concordia To Play SW Minnesota State in Opening Round of NSIC Tournament at 4 p.m.
May. 04 - The NSIC has announced the pairings for the first round of the NSIC baseball tournament set for Thursday-Sunday, May 8-11, 2008 in Wayne, Neb.  This year the top six teams in the conference, based on win percentage, are paired in a double elimination tournament, mirroring the NCAA Regional format. Concordia (16-10) will battle Southwest Minnesota State (14-12) in the opening round at 4 p.m.
Sunday Power Surge Causes Day Two Split
May. 04 - As if Concordia's nine home runs in two games yesterday weren't enough, the Golden Bears (24-14, 16-10 NSIC) and Northern State (15-28, 11-21 NSIC) combined to hit 13 home runs, with NSU hitting five in a 15-4 first game win before CU hit four in a 10-5 second game as the two teams split for the second consecutive day at Barnes Field in St. Paul, Minn.
Schmidt Ties Strikeout Record but Nine Home Runs Not Enough for CU Sweep
May. 03 - Junior right handed pitcher Jake Schmidt (Oakdale, Minn.) struck out eight batters to improve to 6-0 on the season as Concordia University (23-13, 15-9 NSIC) won game one 12-1 over Northern State (14-27, 10-20 NSIC). But the Golden Bears were unable to hold two separate three run leads in game two as the Wolves defeated CU 10-7 despite four Golden Bear home runs on Saturday afternoon at Barnes Field.
Senior Day and Pancake Breakfast Dates for This Weekend
May. 02 - The Concordia University baseball team will close out the 2008 regular season this weekend with a four game series against Northern State with the NSIC tournament the following weekend. This Saturday, the baseball booster club will host the second annual Pancake Breakfast while Sunday marks Senior day. The weekend kicks off with the 9:30 a.m. breakfast while the senior festivities begin after game two on Sunday at Bob Barnes Field.
Saturday Game Time Pushed Back One Hour
May. 01 - Concordia University head baseball coach Mark "Lunch" McKenzie has announced that this Saturday's doubleheader against Northern State has been moved from a noon start to a 1 p.m. start time due to morning weather forecasts. The Golden Bears and Wolves close out their NSIC schedules this weekend.
Schmidt's Heroics Salvage Split for Golden Bears
Apr. 30 - Junior centerfielder Jake Schmidt (Oakdale, Minn.) delivered a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 7-7 tie as Concordia University (22-12, 14-8 NSIC) pulled off a split with Winona State University (20-19, 15-15 NSIC) after a 3-1 loss in the first game on Wednesday afternoon at Barnes Field in St. Paul, Minn.
DeVries Picks Up NSIC Pitcher of the Week Nod
Apr. 29 - Sophomore right handed pitcher Blake DeVries was named the NSIC Pitcher of the Week following his complete game win over #18 Wayne State on Sunday morning at the Metrodome. DeVries is 4-1 with a 1.69 ERA in five NSIC starts, including four straight wins.
Golden Bears Split with Wildcats in Pitching Duels
Apr. 27 - The Jake-'n'-Blake 1-2 combination at the top of the Golden Bear rotation produced excellent results once again, with junior Jake Schmidt (Oakdale, Minn.) pitching eight innings with 10 strikeouts in a no decision while sophomore Blake DeVries (Eden Prairie, Minn.) won his fourth striaght start in a complete game win. Concordia University (21-11, 13-7 NSIC) split with #18 Wayne State (34-8, 20-4) on Sunday afternoon, losing 3-2 in nine innings before a 3-1 game two win at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn.
