Concordia University Scholarships

Concordia University is one of the best values among four-year private, liberal arts universities in the state of Minnesota. 

Concordia is proud to offer a wide range of scholarship opportunities to further assist new and current students as well as recognize and reward their individual gifts and talents.

To demonstrate our commitment to you and our scholarships, we have extended our scholarship deadline for the 2010-11 academic year from May 1st to August 1, 2010.  Please view our scholarship opportunities below and contact your counselor with any questions.


These Concordia scholarships are limited to traditional undergraduate students:

Merit Scholarships
Merit scholarships for freshmen are awarded based on high school academic achievement. Generally, if students demonstrate a 3.00 GPA and a 22 ACT, they are eligible to be considered for a Merit Scholarship. Scholarships are automatically awarded after admission. Scholarships range from $4,000 to $13,000 and are renewable for 3 additional years. Scholarship deadline is May 1st.

Lutheran Heritage Scholarship
Awarded to new freshmen and transfer students at $2,000 per academic year (fall and spring entry terms only).  Scholarships require no application and are awarded automatically if the student is a member of an LCMS congregation. Students must be degree seeking and attending full time. The scholarship is renewed if students are maintaining satisfactory progress. Scholarship deadline is May 1st.

Building Opportunity for Leadership Development (BOLD) Scholarship Program
Scholarships of $1,000 and $2,000 are awarded to newly accepted students enrolling in the traditional undergraduate programs that have participated in college readiness programs.  No scholarship application is necessary and BOLD is awarded in addition to academic scholarships.  The scholarship is renewable with satisfactory academic progress. 

Ignite Scholarship
Scholarships of $2,000 are awarded to newly accepted students enrolling full-time in traditional undergraduate programs who participate in the Ignite leadership program on campus. No scholarship application is necessary and Ignite is automatically awarded to those students possessing a grade point average of 3.25 or higher and an ACT score of 21 or higher that are not receiving any other talent aid. The scholarship is renewable with satisfactory academic progress in maintaining a grade point average of at least 2.75 and satisfactory involvement within the program.

Transfer Academic Scholarship
Students must demonstrate a 2.50 cumulative grade point average from an accredited institution of higher education. Eligible students are awarded between $4,500 and $8,000 (renewable for three additional years) at the time of admission. A transfer student who receives this award must also attend full-time, be degree-seeking, and have completed 20 semester credits prior to entering Concordia.

Athletic Scholarships
Athletic scholarships are available in all intercollegiate sports offered at Concordia University, St. Paul. Students must be accepted to a degree-seeking undergraduate program at the University and meet NCAA D-II eligibility for scholarship consideration. The head coach in each respective sport selects the scholarship recipients and also determines the scholarship amounts.

Scholarship in Mathematics
The Scholarship in Mathematics is available to continuing students who have declared a Mathematics major or minor and to new students who are enrolled full-time and have indicated an interest in mathematics. Scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000 are awarded based on performance in recent math courses. Recipients of the scholarship are expected to complete two math courses a year and to be involved in Math Department activities. Talent Scholarship in Art
The Talent Scholarship in Art is available to new students enrolled full-time in the traditional undergraduate programs. Scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000 are granted to students planning to major or minor in Art. Scholarship recipients are expected to participate in the Art Club or other departmental activities. The scholarships are renewable for returning students who have declared a major or minor in Art and meet other criteria. Talent Scholarship in Music
The Talent Scholarship in Music is open to new students enrolled full-time in the traditional undergraduate programs. Scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000 are granted to students demonstrating musical ability and participation in music programs. The scholarships are renewable by audition. Students must complete a separate application and audition on-campus on one of the announced dates (usually late January to mid-February). Students living a significant distance from the campus may, by special arrangement, submit an audition tape. Talent Scholarship in Theatre
The Talent Scholarship in Theatre is available to new students who are enrolled full-time in the traditional undergraduate programs. Scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000 are granted to students demonstrating theatrical ability and participation in theatre programs.  Scholarships are awarded based on an on-campus audition/interview during announced dates and two letters of recommendation. Students living a significant distance from campus may, by special arrangement, submit an audition tape.  Recipients of the scholarships are expected to participate in Theatre department productions and enroll in Theatre courses. Church Vocation Scholarship
Students enrolled in a certified Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) Church Professional Program are eligible to receive this $2,000 annual scholarship.  Any assistance given by the student's congregation and LCMS district will stack on top of all awarded gift aid.  This scholarship will be part of a student's financial aid package, reducing need-based loans and work-study.  Students must be enrolled full time and be degree seeking in a recognized Church Professional Program.  Application deadline is May 1st.

Scholarship in Natural Sciences
The Scholarship in Natural Sciences is available to new students who are enrolled full-time and have indicated an interest in a Science major or minor. Scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000 are awarded based on high school performance in science courses. Recipients of the scholarship are expected to complete two courses in science in the fall of their first year, and one science course in the spring of their first year. The scholarships are renewable to students who have declared a Science major and meet other criteria. For more information, contact the Office of Admission at admission@csp.edu or (800) 333-4705.

Church Worker Assurance Program
The program assures up to $13,200 in gift aid for new students pursuing a certified Church Professional Program within the Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod (LCMS).  Any assistance given by the student's congregation and LCMS district will stack on top of all awarded gift aid.  This scholarship will be part of a student's financial aid package, reducing need-based loans and work-study.  Students must be enrolled full time and be degree seeking in a recognized Church Professional Program.  Freshman requirements include: a member of an LCMS congregation and a recipient of the Regents' or President's Merit Scholarship.  Transfer student requirements include: a member of an LCMS congregation and a college level GPA of 3.25 or higher.  Students are to apply to federal and state agencies for financial assistance.  Federal, state and institutional grant/scholarships received are considered part of the program.  Application deadline is May 1st.

President's Achievement Merit Scholarship
The President's Achievement Scholarship is a competitive scholarship available to freshmen students of color and is renewable for three additional years. Students are required to complete a separate application for this scholarship. Scholarship deadline is May 1st. Scholarship availability is limited to five.  Please contact the Office of Admission to receive an application.
