Concordia Mission Society

 Who?

OHSCO sponsors a group of students, faculty, and staff on the campus of Concordia University known as the Concordia Mission Society (CMS). CMS is a student-run organization consisting of 7 board members: President, Spiritual Life Coordinator, Secretary, Mini-Missions Coordinator, State-side Trip Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator, and Treasurer. Members of CMS come from a diverse assortment of classes and programs of study at Concordia.

Trip to Baton Rouge, LA, January 2004

What?

CMS's goal is twofold:

  •       To promote Missions on the campus of Concordia University;
  •       To offer participants an opportunity to experience mission work in various contexts throughout the United States and the world.

CMS seeks to accomplish its goal through prayer, regular meetings, mini-missions, and mission trips. Mini-mission activities include:

  •       Reverse Trick-or-Treat
  •       Volunteering at food shelves
  •       Christmas caroling at nursing homes
  •       Missions weekend at a Native American Reservation

Where?

Every year, CMS participates in two mission trips (one in a state-side location and one in a foreign country). These trips have included:

  •       Repairing church buildings with Ysleta Mission in Chihuahua, Mexico
  •       Drama and music ministry in Kingston, Jamaica
  •       Community, congregation, and school outreach in Baton Rouge, LA
  •       Working with the English Language Institute in Chiang Mai, Thailand
  •       Re-roofing a church in Anapra, Mexico
  •       Developing Youth Ministry in Almaty, Kazakhstan
  •       Relationship development in Chiclayo, Peru
  •       Hurricane Relief in New Orleans, LA

Trip to Chiclayo, Peru, January 2006

When?

Regular meetings and mini-missions are held throughout the school year. The mission trips take place over school break in January.

Why?

Because Jesus told us to!

"Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age."

~Matthew 28:19-20
