The Graphic Design major is the newest program in Concordia's Department of Art. An extremely flexible degree, students will be prepared for many varied careers in the commercial or applied arts world. The program combines basic design and interactive proficiency with specific learning opportunities in the vibrant Twin Cities art and design community.
The Graphic Design major is the newest program in Concordia's Department of Art. An extremely flexible degree, students will be prepared for many varied careers in the commercial or applied arts world. The program combines basic design and digital art making knowledge with specific learning opportunities in the greater Twin Cities community, allowing students to explore and discover their areas of interest.
The Department of Art at Concordia provides experience, opportunities, coursework and faculty that will develop the role of visual art in a student's life. The department provides broad curricula in studio art, art education, design, computer applications, community arts and art history.
Students are taught by professors who are highly qualified and active professionals in their fields. Concordia's student to faculty ratio and campus size allow the faculty and students to all know and support each other.
The Concordia Art Center gives students 24-hour access to a wide range of facilities and tools to aid their learning. Concordia has a large ceramics studio with a variety of kilns for high and low temperature firings, including Raku, electric, gas and wood. The printmaking studio includes intaglio, litho and relief presses, and silkscreen, digital and photo-printmaking facilities. Photography classes address traditional black and white photography and new digital media. Students studying graphic design have access to current industry tools, including the entire Adobe creative suite and large format digital printing. Drawing, sculpture and painting are also supported with specialized studio spaces.
Student artwork is showcased in campus galleries throughout the year and each senior Studio major presents their own solo exhibition. Students also can actively participate in Concordia's Art Club. The Department of Art also offers many off-campus experiences ranging from field trips to local museums to biennial trips to Mexico and Europe. Concordia's metropolitan location gives art students access to arts organizations, galleries, museums, exhibition opportunities, internships, arts-related jobs and a vibrant music and theatre community. Concordia supports off-campus internships and assists graduates with career placement.
