Students in the Communication Studies major and minor develop competencies in public speaking, digital media production, research, situation analysis, communication ethics, intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, interviewing and seeing multiple perspectives.

Students have the opportunity to work on The Sword student newspaper, provide NCAA Division II athletic event coverage for television and webcasting using Concordia's TV production truck, and participate in the campus cable channel.
Communication Studies majors must complete at least four internship credits and have the option to earn up to 12 credits. The Twin Cities metropolitan area provides students with a multitude of opportunities for the internship component of the major. Students are able to apply what they learn in the classroom to their internships in a variety of practical settings, including Fortune 500 companies, professional sports teams, government offices and TV and radio stations.
Students who find fulfillment in this area of study are typically relationship-oriented and enjoy interpersonal communication. They write and speak with fluency and enjoy creating original messages and productions.
