Pre-Medical Specialty Studies

About Pre-Medical Specialty Studies more

The Pre-Medical Studies program at Concordia effectively prepares students for graduate school in medicine, dentistry, nursing, chiropractic, pharmacy, physical therapy or occupational therapy. Concordia offers all of the needed courses to pursue these areas of study in an active, hands-on, intimate environment that emphasizes applied learning.

Students gain an understanding of the connection between systems level and molecular level biology and are able to apply that knowledge beyond the textbook to real life pathological situations. Classroom core concepts are used to address headline health issues such as stem cell research, vaccinations, pharmaceutical therapy and many others. Students benefit from the hands-on research, projects, field trips, clubs and individual attention from experienced faculty in well-equipped laboratories and research facilities that are not as available to undergraduate students at larger schools.

Tetra Delta science club gives students the opportunity to address public health issues in a service-oriented fashion. For example, the club recently held a bone marrow drive that registered nearly 50 new donors to the National Bone Marrow Registry. One-on-one relationships with faculty ensure skill acquisition and often results in the student obtaining a meaningful recommendation for graduate school. Students considering applying to a professional program work closely with their faculty advisor to ensure they complete their professional program requirements.
