Majoring in English involves studying the history, structure, and use of the English language. As you read, discuss, and write about the literature and culture of English-speaking people, you’ll learn to write clearly and persuasively, think independently, create original ideas, present alternative viewpoints and solve problems.
You’ll specialize in one of four areas of emphasis (Literature, Creative Writing, Journalism or Professional Writing as you take 41 credit hours towards a Bachelor of Arts degree.
You’ll also have real opportunities beyond the classroom in activities such as writing for The Sword student newspaper, tutoring students in the Writing Center and interning at a local business. And because we design our English program to be responsive to the exact needs of the marketplace, it will be a relevant major if you’re considering a career in writing, teaching, public relations, research, library science, politics, public policy, law, journalism, advertising, archives and museums and related professions.
