Math Placement Exam Information

The mission statement of the Department of the Mathematics states the department "contributes to the Concordia community by encouraging recognition and understanding of math in the world around them." To do that, we employ a Math Placement Exam to help accurately gauge what math class a student should start with so they can be successful at the Concordia.

The thirty-minute math placement exam is usually administered on the day of your New Student Orientation. The exam consists of 25 multiple choice questions evaluating math skills from the list of provided topics to be answered without the aid of a calculator. The exam will be scored immediately and used in conjunction with your transcripts and ACT scores to help the math department decide your eligibility to register for the required math courses.

Below you will find links to the Math Placement topics list, practice questions, and the solutions to the practice questions. If you do not do well on the exam, we do offer a retake opportunity. Please let us know how we can help you be successful in the math requirements at Concordia University, St. Paul.

The Math Assessment can be retaken to improve placement during the first week of classes each semester or by appointment with Sarah Jahn (jahn@csp.edu) or Rob Krueger (rkrueger@csp.edu).

Faculty and Students: Here is the math course prerequisite flow chart to help you in the advising process. Let us know if you have any questions.
