Feb. 16– Senior Kyle Marxhausen scored a season-high 30 points and became just the 13th player in school history with 1,000 career points in a CU uniform as the Bears defeated Upper Iowa 77-63 at the Gangelhoff Center Friday night.
Marxhausen finished the night going 10-17 from the floor, including 2-7 and 8-10 from the free throw line. He also had team-high six rebounds and three steals in 34 minutes. Marxhausen now has 1,012 points at Concordia and 1,154 career points (which includes a freshman season at MSU Mankato).
Senior Joey Peel and junior Jason Birr also scored ten points for the Bears who won their 19th game of the season, besting the 2004-05 teams 18 wins for most wins at the Division II level.
The Bears shot 24-46 (52.2) for the game, including 7-14 (50.0) from beyond the arc, while Upper Iowa was 22-49 (44.9) from the floor and 7-18 (38.9) from three point range.
The difference in the game came at the free throw line where the Bears shot 22-32 (68.8) to Upper Iowa's 12-17 (72.7). The Concordia defense scored 25 points off 21 Peacock turnovers, compared to 12 points on 15 Concordia turnovers. Upper Iowa outrebounded Concordia 31-29.
Nick Larson led Upper Iowa with 19 points, while Marcus Uhlenhopp added 18.
With the win, the Bears improve to 19-5 (12-3 NSIC), while Upper Iowa falls to 3-21 (2-13 NSIC).
Concordia will host #Winona State on Saturday at 8:00 in the Gangelhoff Center. The Bears look to end the Warriors 46 game-winning streak. The last time the two schools met, Winona State earned a hard-fouhgt 86-83 overtime win.
