Mar. 26– Freshman Kelly Godwin's 81 stroke second round vaulted her to a third place tie to lead the Golden Bear women's golf team to a third place finish at the Missouri Western Invite in St. Joseph, Mo.
Concordia shot a team total of 346-356=702, finishing just 10 strokes back of Upper Iowa, who shot a 341 on the second day to surpass the Bears for second place. Nebraska-Omaha won the event with a 339-325=664.
Eight NCAA Division II women's golf programs competed at the event with MSU Moorhead taking sixth (404-372=776) and Wayne State taking seventh (401-411=812) to round out the Northern Sun competitors.
Godwin finished the invite with a score of 166, firing an 85 in the first round of action. She was just four strokes behind Upper Iowa's Rachael Schmidt, who took first at the invite with a 81-81=162 while Nebraska-Omaha's Sara Wolfe was second (83-81=164). Godwin tied UNO's Lynn Mulligan (81-85=166).
The Bears had three other top-20 finishers with Laura Shelander stroking an 87-90=177 to finish 14th with Amanda Bearson two strokes back in 15th at 179 (86-93). Jacquelyn Hauser came in tied for 16th, shooting an 88-92=180.
The Bears return to action this weekend, Mar. 30-31 when they compete in the Augustana College Invitational at the Willow Run Golf Course in Sioux Falls, S.D.
