Apr. 16– Senior pitcher/centerfielder Matt Borman was named the NSIC Pitcher of the Week following his work in a 17-1 victory over the University of Minnesota Duluth last Friday in the first game of a doubleheader.
Borman proved again why he is one of the most dynamic and versatile players in the Northern Sun, shutting down the Bulldogs to improve to 5-0. He tossed a one-hitter with four shutout innings to lower his season earned run average to 1.91 and registered seven strikeouts, including a string of five consecutive hitters from the first through third innings. Borman also helped himself out at the plate as he cruised to the win, hitting a grand slam in an eight-run second inning onslaught that helped open the flood gates. At the plate, the leadoff batter went 1-3 with the grand slam while also walking twice and score on each walk, giving him three runs scored for the game. In the second game, Borman was hitless at the plate but did draw a pair of walks and scored each time, giving him five runs in the two game series. In seven starts on the year, Borman is holding hitters to a .207 average and has allowed just five extra base hits (all doubles) out of 24 hits in 116 opponent at bats. He has recorded 25 strikeouts in 33 innings.
