Morgan, Stockton Sign with Concordia for 2008

Apr. 25– Concordia University head baseball coach Mark "Lunch" McKenzie has announced that Matt Morgan and Jon Stockton have signed to play for the Golden Bears in the 2008 season.

Morgan, a 5-11 right handed hitting catcher from Blue Springs, Mo., chose Concordia after being recruited by several other schools in the Northern Sun and in Missouri. "We are looking for Matt to have an opportunity to make an immediate impact at the Division II level," said McKenzie.

The three-time letter-winner at Blue Springs South High School is currently hitting .536 with a .680 on base pct. while slugging three home runs and 15 RBI through the first 10 games of the season. As a junior, Morgan tallied a .354 average with a .437 on base pct. He earned second team all-conference and all-area honorable mention honors for his junior season.

Stockton is an outfielder/second baseman from Oakdale, Minn. The speedster from Tartan High School is a left handed hitter who will provide the Golden Bears with speed on the basepaths and in the field.

"Jon is a very hard worker that wants to get better each day. We look forward to having Jon in a CU uniform," said McKenzie.

Morgan and Stockton join a Concordia baseball program that is coming off of back-to-back school record winning seasons, going 29-12 in 2005 before a 29-12-1 finish in 2006. The Bears are working on another outstanding season with an 18-10 overall record, receiving high regional and national recognition throughout the 2007 campaign.
