Godwin Finishes 26th at NCAA Championships

May. 12Golden Bear freshman Kelly Godwin shot a 79 on the fourth day of the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships at Stonebrook Golf Club in Pace, Fla. She finished the four round championship event with scores of 78-77-79-79=313 (+25) to finish in 26th place out of the top 48 women's golfers at the NCAA Division II level.

Florida Tech's Daniela Iacobelli won the NCAA Individual Championship, firing a 72-74-73-74=293 to finish five over par. Florida Southern captured the NCAA Team Championship with a 297-296-293-302=1188 and were +36 as a team, ten strokes ahead of Rollins College.

Godwin started the fourth round strong, posting a 37 on the front nine, just one over par. She birdied holes three and six and shot four pars en route to posting the sold first nine holes of action.

She was just four over par through hole 15 but slipped up with a double bogey on 16 and closed the round with a bogey on 18, shooting a 42 on the back nine to finish her day with a 79.

In the four round championship event, Godwin was able to keep her score under 80 throughout. She fired a total of eight birdies, two in each round and 37 pars. She had nine pars in each of the first three rounds and eight in the final round.

Godwin led a Golden Bear women's golf squad that finished third at the 2006-07 NSIC Championships. She placed third at the NCAA North Central Regional Championships and was a first team all-NSIC and first team all-region selection.
