Jun. 11– Concordia senior Matt Borman has earned yet another honor for his play this season. Borman was named a second-team all-American as a utility player by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA).
In 2007, Borman was a Daktroniks first team all-American, a Daktronics all-Central Region first team selection as well as the NSIC Pitcher of the Year while being named All-NSIC first team at two positions (P/OF). He earned NSIC Pitcher of the Week honors once before picking up back-to-back NSIC Player of the Week accolades in a four week span.
He slugged a school record 14 home runs, giving him 33 for his career, also a school record. He also recorded school records in hits (64), runs (61) and RBI (58). He hit .413 (64-155) at the plate with a .768 slugging pct. and a .500 on base pct. He was 13-15 on the base paths, drilled 13 doubles, walked 23 times and committed only three errors in 43 games.
On the mound, the left-handed ace compiled a 7-2 record while pitching 54.0 innings with two complete games and a 4.00 ERA. He held opposing batters to a .233 average and allowed just one home run in 202 opponent at bats. He struck out 35 and walked 18 while allowing 47 hits.
