Jun. 26– Concordia's Kyle Warren has earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America first-team honors for track and field and cross country. Warren graduated from Concordia with a 4.0 in biology. He was the only athlete selected from the NSIC.
While a member of the Golden Bears track and cross country teams, Warren was a three-time all-NSIC performer in cross country (2005, 2006, 2007). He holds five individual records (400m, 600m, 800m, 1500m, Mile) and was a member of five relay records in indoor and outdoor track. Warren ran in NCAA Outdoor championships in 800m in 2006. He was the NSIC champion in the 1500m in 2007, the 800m in 2006 and ran in two NSIC relay team championship teams in 2007.
He is a three-time NSIC all-academic selection and was named Concordia's Student-Athlete of the Year in 2007. He also member of 2006 Division II USTFCCCA Men's All-Academic Track & Field Team.
The Academic All-America Teams program honors male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom.
Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America; a 2,000-member organization consisted of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
Warren is the second track athlete to earn the honor in Concordia history (Emily Shoop, 2004). He is also the sixth athlete to earn the honor during the 2006-07 Academic year for Concordia University (Jessica Lucia, Kelsey Kyro, Ashley Olson - volleyball, Brad Scherer - football, Katie LaViolette - women's basketball).
