Aug. 24– Junior-transfer Whitney Meierotto had a game-high 18 kills in leading the Bears to a 3-1 (30-13, 30-17, 27-30, 30-19) win over Northern Michigan in the opening game of the season for both teams at the Ramada Minneapolis Downtown Tournament in St. Paul.

Meierotto had her first double-double in a CU uniform with the 10 digs to go along with her 18 kills (6 errors, 37 attempts, .324 hitting percentage).

Junior Maria Steinhagen had 12 kills, with four errors and a .320 attack percentage.  Steinhagen and freshman Emily Palkert controlled the net with six blocks each as the Bears finished with 13 blocks compared to eight for the Wildcats.  Palkert also finished with ten kills in her first collegiate debut.

Maggie McNamara finished with 48 assists in directing the Bears offense.  Concordia hit .205 with 52 kills, 27 errors in 122 attempts in the match.  Libero Mary Slinger also had 22 digs in the match for CSP.

Concordia held Northern Michigan to a negative hitting percentage in the first two games and a .014 for the game, as the Wildcats had 34 kills, compared to 32 errors in 147 attempts.

Concordia will face #7 Truman State at 7:30 in the last match of the day in the Gangelhoff Center.
