Aug. 28– The sixth-ranked Concordia-St. Paul volleyball team, fresh off of a 4-0 weekend to open the 2007 season, earned high honors from the Northern Sun as Whitney Meierotto, Maggie McNamara and Mary Slinger each earned NSIC Player of the Week honors for their efforts.
NSIC Offensive Player of the Week #13 Whitney Meierotto (OH, 5-10, Jr., Washburn, Wis.) It didn’t take long for Whitney Meierotto to make an impact nationwide at her new school. Meierotto, a transfer from the University of Minnesota Duluth, earned NSIC Player of the Week and Sports Impact/AVCA National Player of the Week honors all in her first week of competition. Meierotto helped lead #6 Concordia-St. Paul to four wins this past weekend at the Ramada Downtown Minneapolis/CSP Tournament, which included a win over No. 7 Truman State. For the weekend, Meierotto had a .325 hitting percentage and averaged 4.28 kills, 3.92 digs and 5.0 points per game. Both awards are first for Meierotto, but a Golden Bear has now been named Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week five times.
NSIC Setter of the Week #4 Maggie McNamara (S, 5-9, So., Zumbrota, Minn.) McNamara averaged 14.31 assists per game while directing the CSP offense to a .243 hitting %. She had 52 assists in 3 games against #7 Truman and guided the Bears to a .328 hitting percentage against Millersville with 47 assists in three games. She also had 30 digs (2.31 dpg) and seven blocks on the week. This marks the sixth time McNamara has been named NSIC Setter of the Week.
NSIC Defensive Player of the Week #3 Mary Slinger (Libero, 5-8, So., Faribault, Minn.) Slinger averaged 7.38 digs per game at the at the Ramada Downtown Minneapolis/CSP Tournament. She had 34 digs in three games against #7 Truman, 28 digs against Millersville and 22 against Northern Michigan to go with seven aces on the weekend.
