Aug. 23– The Concordia University women's golf program will be teeing off Sept. 3-4 at St. James Country Club in St. James, Minn. at the Maverick Roundup.
The women have one returning golfer, Kelsey Walt, who will has made some key swing changes from her freshman season a year ago, and she is starting to see the benefits. "She is hitting the ball now better than I've ever seen her in the past," said head coach Matt Higgins. Walt will be looked upon to provide leadership to the younger athletes.
Higgins has signed three new women's golfers for the 2005 season, all of which are expected to step in and contribute: Jacquelyn Hauser, Carley Paulseth and Alicia Ulring. All three are expected to be strong players and are coming to CU on the heels of outstanding high school careers.
Hauser placed fourth in the Class A state tournament last spring and "I know she has the ability to make some noise in the NSIC this fall," commented Higgins.
Paulseth also reached the state tournament after winning her conference and placing second at sections while Ulring is coming from a strong golf program at Staples-Motley.
The three newcomers will join Walt in what appears to be a young CU women's golf program on the rise.
