Apr. 28– Dan Johnson and Steven Atwood have signed letters of intent to play golf for Concordia University in 2006-07. They will join the men's program that finished its first season of competition in 2005-06.
Johnson, a senior from Windom Area high school is a three-time state qualifer and was a sectional champion and all-conference as a junior. He is a 17-time individual medalist and a three-time MGA state qualifier.
"Dan has also proved that he can play and win under tournament pressure golf," says Higgins. "Dan is very talented and is a wonderful student. He will make an immediate impact on our men's program. I very excited that he will continue his golfing career here at Concordia. I expect him to be near the top every week of our season!"
Atwood, from Key West, FL, will transfer to Concordia from the College of Canyons in Santa Clara, CA. His was the Monroe County golfer of the year in 2003 and 2004 and the Port St. Lucie County champion in 2003. He finished 14th at the Florida state championships in 2004.
"I'm very excited that Steven has decided to play for Concordia University. I know that after being red shirted his freshman year he's excited to play college golf. Steven has the potential to be a tremendous college golfer. He'll step in immediately and challenge the golfers in our conference and region!"
