Aug. 17– Junior forward Hillary Johnson drilled the lone goal in the contest to propel the Golden Bears to a 1-0 exhibition shutout victory over Ferris State in Traverse City, Mich. on Wednesday afternoon. The goal by Johnson was assisted by senior Rachel Vitense.
The Bears were opportunistic and played solid defensively as they were outshot 11-3 in the game overall but only let three shots reach goal. On offense, Concordia only needed two shots on goal to convert the game-winner.
Sophomore goalkeeper Keyton Wheelock started in the net and shut out Ferris State for 60 minutes, leaving with a scoreless tie. Freshman Ashley Edge relieved her and completed the shutout for the final 30 minutes to earn the exhibition victory.
The Golden Bears remain in Michigan for the rest of the week and will battle Cornerstone in their final exhibition scrimmage at 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 19 in Traverse City before their regular season opens at home on August 26 against Augustana.
