Sep. 12– The Concordia golf team had an impressive first showing to open the 2006 golf season shooting a team record 335 on Monday and bettering that with a 323 on Tuesday to finish 13th of 20 teams with a 658 at the Deerfield Inn Region Tournament hosted by Drury in Springfield, MO.
Kelly Godwin led the team in her first meet with a 85-72-157 to finish 21st. The 72 was the second lowest round of the day and was only bettered in the two-day event by Woori Shin of Redlands Community College, who took medalist honors shooting a 72-70=142 on the 5823 yard, par 72 course. Redlands also took the team title with a 300-311=611.
Jaquelyn Hauser shot a 81-80=161 to finish 34th, and Carley Paulseth shot a career-low Monday with a 80 to go with a 90 on Tues. to finish 170 (78th). Amanda Bearson fired a 89-82=171 and Kelsey Walt shot 92-89=181. Melissa Burrows had back-to-back 96' for 192 (116) and Jennifer Hughes shot 98-103=201 (119).
The Bears will be back in action on Sept. 16-17 at the Concordia Invite at the Jewel Golf Course in Lake City, MN.
