Oct. 25– The Northern Sun released the all-conference soccer team with interim head coach Joe Alianiello earning high honors in his first season as he was selected the NSIC Co-Coach of the Year along with Winona State's Ali Omar. Junior Hillary Johnson was CU's lone first team selection with senior Emily Grannes earning second team honors and sophomore Sam Voeller being named honorable mention.
Alianiello (right) directed the Golden Bears to a 6-3 finish in Northern Sun play and earned the second seed in the NSIC Tournament and the right to host a first round game. The six conference wins set a school record as the Bears won their first postseason game in program history when they defeated MSU Moorhead in the first round. That victory also tied a school record in overall wins with 10. CU currently stands at 10-10-1 overall and is competing in the NSIC Tournament Semifinals against U-Mary on Friday afternoon.

H.Johnson (above), a junior forward from Andover, Minn., was CU's offensive leader during the 2006 campaign. A quick, fast and explosive scoring threat, she scored a team-high eight goals and tallied 21 points as she added five assists. Her points and goals were both tied for the fourth most in the Northern Sun. She also recorded four game-winning goals (3rd - NSIC) on the year and led the team in shots with 94 and shots on goal with 50.
Grannes (left), a senior defender from Apple Valley, Minn., anchored a back row that surrendered just seven goals in 10 Northern Sun contests - second fewest in the league. "Emily is a quick, smart and versatile player who was utilized at almost every position during her two year career with the Golden Bears," said Alianiello of Grannes' strengths. On the season, Grannes recorded a pair of assists from the defense.
Voeller (right), a sophomore midfielder from White Bear Lake, Minn., finished third on the Bears with four goals and four assists for a season total of 12 points. Voeller fired 30 shots, 12 on goal as she has played in 21 games with 16 starts.
