The class will emphasize a number of topics including: North-South social and cultural differences, the short and long-term causes of the conflict, Southern secession, slavery and emancipation, Abraham Lincoln's leadership, battles and military strategies, soldier's lives, wartime diplomacy, politics, and economics during the war, the struggles of Reconstruction and the significance of the war in American history.
