About John Roth
An accomplished composer and performer, adjunct professor of guitar John Roth has been a member of Concordia University, St. Paul's music faculty since 1984. Roth has composed over 1,000 works in a broad variety of genres. His sacred compositions and arrangements number over 300, many published by Augsburg Fortress, Concordia Publishing House and Choristers Guild.
Roth's work, which includes six solo CDs, can also be heard on albums by Lorie Line, Linda Wrobel, Scott Hackler, Bread for the Journey (voice, guitar, percussion), Tribute to Paul Manz, Stereo Review Guitar Sampler (also features Paul McCartney and Seventh Heaven guitarist Lawrence Juber) and others. Performances include shows at a sold-out Guthrie Theater (with Kenny Rankin) and at the Ordway Theatre, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod National Conventions and national tours with Bread for the Journey. Roth has also performed in Asia and Europe and appeared on network television broadcasts in Finland and Norway.
Publications include "The Art of Rhythm Guitar" and "The Classic American Guitar Book." In addition, Roth's humor writing has been published by Adventure Publications (Norigami: The Art of Norwegian Paper-Folding), Minnesota Public Radio (Norwegian Astronomy) and by Lighten Up Enterprises (Love 'n' Hug Notes).
Roth has composed and played tracks for film and commercials including, United Way, Tombstone Pizza, Peach Tree Software, Kimberly-Clark and The Johnson Institute. He has also acted as a corporate logo consultant for a major Twin Cities advertising agency.
Roth serves as Director of Contemporary Music at the Lutheran Church of St. Philip the Deacon in Plymouth, Minn.
