Concordia University Department of Theatre and Dance presents The Drowsy Chaperone, Thursday, Oct. 24 through Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013 at the E.M. Pearson Theatre. The production will show at 7: 30 p.m. Oct. 24-26 and 2 p.m. Oct. 27. Production directed by Buffy Sedlachek.
The Drowsy Chaperone begins with a die-hard musical theater fan playing his favorite cast album on his old turntable. The musical literally bursts to life in his living room, telling the rambunctious tale of a pampered Broadway starlet and her debonair fiance, an overzealous producer, a dizzy chorus girl, a Latin lover and a couple of bumbling gangsters. In a loving send-up of the frivolous stage musicals of the Jazz Age, the Man in the Chair provides the audience with an amusing commentary on the music, story, and actors as he boldly addresses a great unspoken desire in all of our hearts: to be entertained. Winner of five Tony Award, including Best Book and Best Score, The Drowsy Chaperone is nothing less than a celebration of musical comedy in all its beautiful and frequently absurd glory.
