Lutheran Partnership Leads to Middle School Choral Camp at Concordia

Concordia University, St. Paul will partner with the Lutheran Music Program to provide a Middle School Choral Camp on campus July 23-27. Dr. David Mennicke, Concordia’s Director of Choral Studies and Music Department Chair, will lead the five-day program.

The Middle School Choir Camp will meet daily from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will include vocal warm-ups and games followed by reading sessions and choir rehearsals. An introduction to handbells, drum circles and music workshops will be combined with recreation and other arts activities. A final informal performance for friends and family on the afternoon of Friday, July 27 will share all that the students have learned during the week.

All area middle school students (completing grades 5-8) are invited to participate in the camp. Tuition for the day camp is $200 and includes all music materials and fees, lunch each day and a camp T-shirt. No audition is necessary, but registration will be limited.

Founded in 1981, Lutheran Music Program (LMP) is an independent music education and performance organization based in Minneapolis. LMP’s primary program, the Lutheran Summer Music Academy & Festival, provides a four-week musical home for talented high school musicians who undertake rigorous musical studies in a supportive, caring community.

The 2012 Middle School Choral Camp is made possible in part by a grant provided by the Minnesota State Arts Board, through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
