Dr. David Mennicke Awarded Grant to Attend World Choral Symposium

Grant Gifted by American Choral Directors Association of Minnesota

Dr. David Mennicke, chair of Concordia University, St. Paul’s Department of Music, was recently awarded a $3,000 grant by the American Choral Directors Association of Minnesota (ACDA-MN) to attend the World Choral Symposium in Seoul, South Korea in August 2014.

The Symposium is a triennial conference of the International Federation for Choral Music that features the finest choirs and choral conductors in the world, concerts, interest sessions and networking opportunities.

Mennicke received the ACDA-MN’s F. Melius Christiansen Endowment (FMC) Fund, which helps assist in providing active choral conductors in Minnesota with professional development opportunities. Since 1996 the FMC Endowment Fund Committee has awarded scholarships to 196 Minnesota choral directors totaling more than $123,500.

“I’m grateful and humbled by this opportunity and hope to make the most of it,” Mennicke said. “I’m particularly excited about attending the symposium as it’s the premier conference in my choral profession – it doesn’t get any higher level than this. As a choral conductor with 30 years of experience, it will provide me with new and higher learning and examples for my craft that I can apply.”

The FMC scholarship is awarded annually to ACDA-MN members to attend ACDA division and national conferences, the Summer Dialogue conference and graduate school. Every three years an ACDA-MN member is awarded a scholarship to attend the World Symposium on Choral Music.
