Film Reflects Former Professor's Passion for Civil Rights

The Concordia family is invited to join the previewing of "Seeds of '68," a documentary film about the experiences of professor emeritus Dr. Frederick Bartling, Sr.  Created by Bartling's daughter, filmmaker Anastasia Pydych (the sister of current CSP professor of Education Dr. Fred Bartling, Jr.), the story, told through recollections of the elder Bartling and his former students, reflects on his experience of prejudice and hatred in the South and looks back on the ongoing struggle for freedom that culminated in America "coming apart" in 1968.

The film has been entered into the Minnesota Historical Society Film Competition, which asked people to enter a 10-minute film on any aspect of the year of 1968 - on people, politics, popular culture, or everyday life.  Film screenings of the competition entries will be at the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul on Sunday, Sept. 27, from noon to 4 p.m., with an awards program at 4 p.m.  Pydych said she created the film to honor her father and the tremendous impact he had on his students and Concordia as she attempted to capture his spirit and passion for American History and civil rights.
