Dr. Richard Carter Retires from Concordia University
Religion and theology professor Dr. Richard Carter is retiring from Concordia University, St. Paul after 22 years of service to the institution. Ordained by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in 1981, Dr. Carter served as interim CSP Pastor during the 2012-13 academic year.
Dr. Carter arrived at Concordia in 1991 after completing his doctorate in theology from Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Mo. Prior to his seminary studies he served as a Director of Church Education in suburban San Diego and then Appleton, Wisc., between 1968 and 1976. Dr. Carter’s first pastoral call was to teach in the seminary of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria (1981-87).
All together Dr. Carter has served in theological education on four continents during his 45 years of teaching ministry, which provided a global experience into his classrooms at Concordia helping students explore the connections between faith and life.
Author of a number of professional journal articles, Dr. Carter owns five academic degrees in the areas of theology, ministry and education.
Dr. Carter and his wife Miriam are blessed with two children and four grandchildren.
