Pitcher Returns to Home Base - Star TribuneJust two years after her standout senior season with Columbia Heights, Jenny Kaminski said she's just happy to still be playing softball. Up until this summer, the now-sophomore pitcher at Concordia University St. Paul didn't know whether she would ever pitch again after experiencing what she considers a less than ideal freshman year with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team. Hmong History Finds a Home - Star TribuneTucked away amid basement boxes and bookshelves in a handsome St. Paul house is a treasure trove that scholars say is rapidly becoming the world's largest repository of Hmong books, artifacts, photographs and recordings. There's a valuable qeej, a traditional Hmong instrument that looks like a wooden trombone and sounds like an accordion. There's a book written by a Chinese emperor in 1810, exploring the history of the oppressed people known in China as the Miao. Read Full Story

Concordia Adjunct Prof Helps Curb Gang Violence - City PagesConcordia adjunct professor of Criminal Justice Joe Arvidson was featured in the Jan. 24, 2007, issue of City Pages, in the newspaper's cover story on Twin Cities gangs and various efforts aimed at curbing gang violence. Along with his teaching duties, Arvidson is a Ramsey County probation officer who works exclusively with adults convicted of gang-related crimes. Says Scott Harr, chair of the Criminal Justice M.A. program, "When we tell prospective students one of the attributes of our program is our faculty are experts not only because they have studied their subjects, but do it, we're serious!"
