Public Policy Workshop for High School Students Offered at Concordia
Concordia University, St. Paul is offering a summer workshop designed for high school students interested in developing their public policy skills on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014. Led by a team of Concordia professors and political science students, the camp will focus on strategies for effective communication with policy makers and will provide skills for working on political campaigns.
Concordia has an established reputation for getting student-led bills introduced and passed through the Minnesota State Legislature through the hard work and research done by students in CSP Professor Jayne Jones’ political science course. Most recently Concordia students introduced six bills during the 2014 Legislative Session, including amendments to the highly discussed and publicized Legislator Immunity Law.
Jones, along with Concordia students active in the legislative process and those who currently work on political campaigns will serve as mentors at the workshop. CSP’s Dr. Bruce Corrie, an expert in public policy and Dr. David Woodard, a self-proclaimed political junkie and professor of political science and history, will also assist at the workshop.
Open to all area high school students entering grades 10-12, the one-day workshop will run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and costs $75. Full scholarships are available for qualifying students. Applications are due July 1. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 651-603-6238 for application materials.
