Outreach Events

The Oswald Hoffmann School of Christian Outreach (OHSCO) develops an outreach consciousness and promotes outreach opportunities on Concordia University's campus.

Evangelism Emphasis Week:

Each year OHSCO raises the evangelism consciousness of the University through a series of guest speakers in the Chapel, Convocation, classrooms, and in conversation. In the past, Rev. Jerry Kosberg, Dr. Ralph Geisler, Dr. David Mulder, and Dr. Oswald Hoffmann have shared outreach insights and ministries with the University community.

The Oswald and Marcia Hoffmann Outreach Program

With a gift from Dr. Oswald and Marcia Hoffmann, each year OHSCO brings on campus a mission speaker for the day. That person shares in classrooms, spends time informally during lunch, preaches and speaks in chapel, and is available to any and all people on the campus of Concordia University. In the evening, the Twin Cities community is invited to listen to that person share his/her understanding of God's mission for the church. In the past, Dr. James Dretke, Islamic Scholar and Rev. Dr. Gerald Kieschnick, President of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod have been on campus. On October 2-3, 2003, Rev. Robert Roegner, Executive Director of World Mission for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, and Dr. Daniel Mattson, Associate Director shared that honor. Pastor Leith Anderson was with us on campus in the spring of 2005 and Dr. Paul Maier in the spring of 2006. Rev. Roland Wells was featured in July of 2006.

Concordia Mission Society (CMS):

OHSCO is the Concordia University faculty representative and sponsor for the Concordia Mission Society. CMS is composed of Concordia University students who spend at least one week during semester break in an outreach environment sharing the good news through evangelism opportunities and servant events as well as the on-campus organization which develops opportunities for students to immerse themselves in outreach ministries.

World Mission Week:

Each year, OHSCO raises the mission consciousness of the college through a week-long series of special presentations. Missionary speakers on campus share their experiences and knowledge in chapel, classes, and in a mission convocation as well as in informal conversation. Past speakers have included Dr. Oswald Hoffmann of the Lutheran Hour; Dr. Lyle Schaller, Dr. Robert Scudieri, Area Secretary for LCMS North American Missions; Dr. James Dretke of the Islamic Zwemer Institute; Rev. Jerry Kosberg, former Director of the Department of Evangelism of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS); Dr. Eugene Bunkowske, Nigerian missionary for 22 years; Rev. Ken Hennings, Mission Executive for the Texas District; Rev. Steve Hughey of the LCMS World Mission; and many others.
