About distance education
Distance education, or online classes, share the same objectives and quality instruction as our degree programs and traditional "on-campus" classes; distance courses have the same requirements and usually the same assignments. Concordia's online learners use the WebCT internet tool.

Many online classes require a 45-minute "class meeting chat" each week. This will be a live, online, group discussion of course content.  These chats are always on the same evening at the same time each week. Discussion boards are also integral components of online classes, and provide platforms for students to share information and refine their thoughts while gaining knowledge on a topic.

Some online classes are self-paced and do not have required chat times but use the chat feature for instructor office hours. During this time instructors aid student comprehension by answering questions and clarify course content. Instructor online office hours are arranged by students and instructor and are not mandatory attendance. You can find self-paced classes by choosing "self-paced courses" from the catagory drop down when searching for classes.

About Intensive programming
Intensive courses are offered at an accelerated pace and provide students with an in-depth learning experience. Classes may run for four to eight weeks, depending on the credit value, instead of the traditional 14 week semester length course.

Due to the nature of accelerated programming it is important for students to adhere to the SCS attendance policies of attending all scheduled chats , timely discussion board postings, and submitting assignments according to due dates stated in the syllabus.

School of Continuing Studies online courses have no academic prerequisites.  We welcome students enrolled in degree programs; individuals seeking professional or personal enrichment; PSEO students; and high school students who wish to join us as visiting students.

PSEO,  high school, and students visiting from other institutions, should check with their academic advisor or guidance counselor to determine how these online courses fulfill general education requirements or electives.

PSEO students wishing to enroll in online courses must first be accepted to the University as a PSEO student. To learn more about Concordia University's PSEO program check out our PSEO Informational Page.
