Dr. Nancy Hackett
Professor of English
After teaching at state universities and a private East Coast college, Dr. Nan Hackett chose to teach at Concordia University, St. Paul because there she sees her students grow over four years, from first-year students dabbling in literature to graduates who walk across the stage with their diplomas. She values open, provocative, lively classroom discussion when students gossip about why Othello doesn’t trust Desdemona, Cathy marries Edgar or Emily Dickinson chooses the smallest room. Her Ph.D. from the University of Iowa is in British literature, particularly Victorian fiction, and she teaches primarily British literature from Beowulf to the latest Man Booker prize winner as well as courses in grammar, the history of English and literary theory.
