15th Season of Archaeological Excavations Underway at Sussita National Park

IMG_0323A team from Concordia University led by Dr. Mark Schuler has begun its fifteenth season of archaeological excavations at Sussita National Park in Israel, which overlooks the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee. The site is the location of Antiochia Hippos, a Decapolis city and possibly the “city set on a hill” to which Jesus referred in the Sermon on the Mount.

The team is documenting its work with daily posts to hippos.archaeology.csp.edu that are also mirrored on its Facebook page. In addition to the typical stories of digging, the project has partnered with Sketchfab.com, the largest host for 3D models documenting cultural heritage sites. Each day, the team employs photogrammetry to produce 3D models of the excavation areas. The project concludes at the end of July.
