Champions on the Court, in the Classroom
They captured a fifth-straight NCAA Championship last fall and for the eighth time in nine years, the Concordia University volleyball team has been honored for their academic success, earning the AVCA Team Academic Award. They are one of 67 teams at the Division II level to maintain a 3.30 or higher cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
The AVCA Team Academic Award was established in 1992-93 and honors all levels of college and high school volleyball. Across all levels of the sport, a record 533 teams achieved the high academic status, breaking last year’s record total of 481.
Additionally, the Golden Bears were one of three teams honored with the AVCA Team Academic Award that also captured a national championship. In all, the AVCA Team Academic Award has produced 16 national championship teams in competition since the award’s inception in 1992-93, with Concordia accounting for four of the dual academic/athletic achievement. The other two school’s who joined Concordia as athletic champions and academic award winners were Cowley College (NJCAA Division II) and Clearwater Christian College (NCCAA Division II). –
