Concordia University, St. Paul Launches RN to BS in Nursing Degree Program

Concordia University, St. Paul is expanding options for nurses seeking an advanced degree by offering an online RN to BS in Nursing degree completion program beginning in Fall 2014.

This degree program is designed for registered nurses who are interested in career advancement by furthering their knowledge of the nursing profession and the cultural, political, economic, and social issues that influence healthcare delivery and patient care. In today’s health care industry, baccalaureate-prepared nurses are more employable than ever as they fill expanding roles that support both changing demographics and an evolving healthcare context.

“Nurses are one of our most valuable health care resources,” said Josie Christian, program coordinator of the RN to BS in Nursing program. “We are pleased to be able to offer them a program that will help them improve their career prospects and contribute to their professional growth, designed to be flexible enough to work with their schedule.”

The online RN to BS in Nursing program at Concordia provides students with a collaborative learning environment and enhances nurses current practice and prepares them for careers in leadership, management, care coordination, case management and public health. Coursework includes relevant, real-world topics like ethics, decision-making, professional practice, transcultural nursing, leadership and management, nursing informatics and community health nursing.

Concordia graduates will be able to synthesize knowledge, theory and evidence-based research into nursing practice while assuming leadership roles in a variety of nursing settings. They will integrate nursing science with information and patient care technologies to facilitate the delivery of safe and effective nursing care. The program enables nursing professionals to deliver and advocate for health promotion and disease prevention strategies at the individual, family, community and population levels as well.

The degree program is offered completely online and is expected to take two years to complete.
