CSP officially becomes Start by Believing campus

Concordia University, St. Paul is partnering with Ramsey County’s Start by Believing Community public awareness campaign, an initiative designed to change the way in which the broader community, law enforcement, prosecution, and criminal justice partners respond to sexual violence. Concordia President Dr. Tom Ries will sign an official notification with Ramsey County attorney John Choi and Ramsey County Sheriff Jack Serier documenting CSP as a Start by Believing campus on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 11:20 a.m. in the Graebner Memorial Chapel.

Start by Believing is a national campaign to believe victims of sexual assault when they come forward to share their story.  Often times, these victims are questioned first about the incident and not always believed.  This campaign’s goal is for people to take a pledge to:

  • Start by Believing when someone tells them about their sexual assault.
  • Help survivors on the road to justice and recovery.
  • End the cycle of silence surrounding sexual violence.

The Start by Believing initiative has been implemented locally by the following partners: Ramsey County Board of Commissioners, Ramsey County Attorney’s Office, Saint Paul – Ramsey County Public Health, Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, St. Paul Police Department, and Maplewood Police Department. Supporting partners include Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault, Minnesota League of Women Voters, Hmong American Partnership, Comunidades Latinas Unidas en Servicio (C.L.U.E.S.), and many more.
